The AMC students in Paris !
On Friday 10th of January, students from Grandmont highschool, classes of A.M.C and L.L.C.E, escaped to Paris for the purpose of visiting the Louis Vuitton Fondation for a special exhibition on Pop Art presented by a guide in the morning, and the Banksy museum in the afternoon as part of our curicular. We departed at 6 :45am. There was at least a 4 hour-drive to reach Paris.
Guided visit at the Louis Vuitton Foundation
This esthetically beautiful and massive building was imagined and created by world famous Canadian-American architect Frank Gerhy whose work also include the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain. It is a very disturbing building because of its deformity. The guide explained that the glass building takes the form of a sailboat's sails inflated by the wind because Gerhy himself is passionate about sailing.
Inside, the students saw many representations of the Pop Art movement. From gigantic paintings representing small objects to small models representing big objects or even a reunion of shop mannequins. We saw the works of artists like Tom Wesselmann, Derrick Adams, Frank Bowling and Andy Warhol. At midday we had a picnic in the Jardin d'Acclimatation where there was a dino park with giant dinos.
Banksy, an open museum
We then took the coach at 2 :00 pm for the Banksy museum. There, we were able to see reproductions of many famous street art works made by the artist such as « Love is in the air », « Follow your dreams (cancelled) », « Steve Jobs in Calais », and obviously « Girl with balloon ». We were totally free to see what we wanted when we wanted to because it was not a guided visit. There was even a space where visitors could leave their own little graffitis and we were happy to oblige.

We had such a great day because it was interresting to learn what we studied in class in a different way, which is less boring and funnier. At the end of the day everyone was tired because we had walked a lot. But we were all happy about the day we spent seeing beautiful and significative pieces of art.

Lee Miller, before the war
Muse, model, then accomplished artist : a look back at Lee Miller's pre-war past.
A debut in front of the camera
Before becoming an iconic war photographer, Lee Miller first made a name for herself as a model and muse in the 1920s. Discovered by chance in New York, she quickly became one of the most sought-after faces in Vogue. Her beauty, combined with a modern aura, propelled her to the top of magazine pages.
In Paris, a decisive meeting with Man Ray
In the 1930s, she left New York for Paris where she became photographer Man Ray’s assistant and muse. Man Ray was an American visual artist known for his experimental photography and his role in the Surrealist movement. He spent most of his career in Paris, where he worked as a painter, sculptor, filmmaker and poet. At his side, she learnt photographic techniques, while gradually breaking away from the simple image of the model to assert herself behind the lens.
A genius painter and a budding photographer
Picasso and Lee Miller shared an intense artistic friendship ; she photographed him more than a thousand times while Picasso painted her six times, creating emblematic paintings. Innovative and creative, Miller explored fashion photography, but it was during the Second World War that her talent came into its own.
NB : We were not able to use photographs of and by Lee Miller because of copyright issues. We did our best to illustrate these two articles.

Lee Miller, unknown war photographer
D-Day 80th anniversary : what this film tells us about her and why she deserves to be widely known.
Released in 2023, « Lee Miller » is a British biographical war drama directed by Ellen Kuras. This film has a quality cast with Kate Winslet (Titanic) as the main character and Marion Cotillard (Taxi) with an original soundtrack by Alexandre Desplat (Harry Potter and the deathly hallows, The Twilight saga chapter II). Adapted from her son's novel, Anthony Penrose « The Lives of Lee Miller », this film is about Elizabeth Miller, one of the first woman war photographers.
The true story of Lee Miller
In 1940, she worked in London for British Vogue and took photos of the Blitz. In 1942, she joined the US army and was sent to France to follow the 83rd infantry division which fought in Normandy. She attended the liberation of Saint-Malo where she witnessed the first napalm bombing.
An essential eyewitness
She covered the fightings through Europe and discovered the horrors of Buchenwald and Dachau concentration camps in April 1945. She sent her photos of the camps to Vogue and had to write to the magazine to certify that the photos were authentic. She arrived in Munich and spent a few days in Hitler’s appartement. With her friend David E. Scherman, she took an iconic photo of herself in the dictator's personal baththub.
A lucky find
She didn't talk about what she had done during the war and her photos were discovered fortuitously in an attic by her son’s wife. We really enjoyed this film and recommend it to you.

Pop Forever exhibition and the World of Banksy
Pop Forever was centered around Tom Wesselmann but also presented artists from all continents from the 1920's till today inspired by things as varied as cartoons, films, adverts, celebrities, gutter press or kitchen appliances.
The World of Banksy, a permanent exhibition in the heart of Paris, offers a unique experience, a journey without borders. The artist's work can be full of poetry but he also tackles the most preoccupying issues of our modern world.

Andy Warhol and the Pop Art movement
A leading figure exhibited at the Louis Vuitton Foundation.
Andy Warhol was an American visual artist, film director and producer. A leading figure in the Pop Art movement. He is considered as the most important artist of the 20th century.
Early years
He started his career as a commercial designer for prestigious magazines, such as Harper's Bazaar and Vogue ; before devoting himself to painting.
At 8 years old, Warhol had rheumatic chorea, so when he was confined to his bed, he drew and later he described this period as a very important part in the development of his personality.
The Pop Art movement
Andy Warhol is particularly known for his Pop Art artwork. Pop Art is an artistic movement which was born in the 50's in Britain. It stands out by the use of everyday objects, presented in an ironic way. "Pop Art" means "popular art", in order to be understood by everyone.
The "Campbell's Soup Cans" and "Marilyn Monroe"
Warhol is an emblematic figure in the Pop Art history. His most famous pieces of art are the "Campbell's Soup Cans" and "Marilyn Monroe".
He painted 32 times the Campbell's soup, in all the flavours that the brand offers. It was Muriel Latow's idea, owner of an art galery in Mannathan. Many times she influenced the work of Warhol.
The Marilyn Diptych is a representation of 50 Marilyn Monroes. He created the painting just after the death of the actress. On the left of the painting, the Marylins are very brightly colored, to symbolize the life of the movie star. On the right, the representations are in black and white to contratst with the realilty that the star had passed away.
"If you want to know all about Andy Warhol, just look at the surface of my paintings and films, and me, and there I am. There's nothing behind it." said Andy Warhol.

Banksy, street art icon
The anonymous artist with a powerful message has turned his art into a powerful tool for social and political denunciation.
As part of our artistic exploration, we turn our focus to the work of an iconic figure, a true symbol of street art : Banksy.
Banksy is an artist with a secret identity, we don't know when or where but theories say that he was born in 1973 or 1974 in Bristol in the UK. His work started to become famous and to have an impact in 1999. His expansion continued during the 21st century until today, when he is still active.
The Paris exhibition
On the 10th of January, we went to his museum in Paris and we discovered some of his most famous works, these are commited works.
The work Rage, Flower Throw created in Jerusalem in 2003, is one of Banksy's most famous works and has become a symbol of peace and hope for many, especially in the face of destruction, death and disaster. Although the rioter is throwing a Molotov cocktail, it is actually a bouquet of flowers.
His fights
He's a committed artist and in the work Rage, Flower Throw, he is promoting peace. However that's not all, in other works such as Free Zehra Dogan, a Kurdish activist emprisonned for two years, he defends human rights. Through his work, he also denounces pollution and the importance of taking care of our planet. He aims to defend many other causes such as social inequalities, war and violence, freedom of expression and the rights of migrants.
The Banksy mystery
Despite all his influence, his identity remains a mystery to the general public. Although there have been theories that his name was Robin Gunningham alias Robert Banks, but there is no certainty on his identity.

Book and Film Review
Take a look at the book « It ends with us » and the movie « The Devil Wears Prada ».
It ends with us – Colleen Hoover
“And as hard as this choice is, we break the pattern before the pattern breaks us.”
Colleen Hoover, It Ends with Us
This book is a romance – drama novel, published in 2016, by Colleen Hoover.
It dives into some pretty heavy themes like domestic abuse, trauma, and difficult relationships, making it stand out from the sea of lighter love stories.
We follow the life of Lily Bloom a young woman settling down in Boston in order to open her flower shop. The book starts when Lily meets Ryle, a charming and ambitious neurosurgeon who originally doesn’t want to get attached, but with whom she gets in a relationship. Through Lily’s diary we learn about her very first love, Atlas, a homeless teenager.
The book describes with sensitivity hard subjects such as domestic abuse and how it can affect a person’s life. It gives a great message on how to break an abusive relationship.
In August 2024, the adaption of the book into a film was released with Blake Lively.
The Devil Wears Prada
« Face it, you sold your soul the day you put on that first pair of Jimmy Choo's. » Emily
This film was released in June 2006. It's a comedy-drama film directed by David Frankel and produced by Wendy Finerman. We follow Andy (Anne Hataway) an aspiring young journalist who gets a job at a fashion magazine, but finds herself at the mercy of her demanding editor, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).
This movie deals with high fashion, journalism, and love. There hasn't been an official confirmed sequel to The Devil Wears Prada (2006), although it's an idea that's been mentioned from time to time in the media. The possibility of a Devil Wears Prada 2 has been discussed several times, but to this day, there has been no concrete announcement about a direct follow-up film.

The event of the year !
The Met Gala will take place on May 1st in New York, at the famous Metropolitan Museum of Art. Who will be there ?
What is the Met Gala ?
For those who don’t know yet about this sumptuous annual event, it serves to raise funds for the Costume Institute, a museum dedicated to the study, preservation, and exhibition of historical and contemporary fashion.
Since 1948, the Met Gala and the various celebrities’ outfits have continued to make us dream.
During the evening, those celebrities walk the red carpet before heading to dinner.
Each year, there is a different theme and the 2025 theme has now been revealed.!!! It’s "Superfine : Tailoring Black Style" !
We can’t wait to see all the idols' outfits.
Which celebrities ?
Over the years, many celebrities have walked this red carpet, such as the Kardashian family, the famous Zendaya, and even the beautiful Anne Hathaway.
Some of them and their outfits have left a lasting impression.
Who made history ?
Remember, in 2023, Billie Eilish arrived in a magnificent black dress by Simone Rocha.
She really made an impression.
More recently, in 2024, Stray Kids made history with their Tommy Hilfiger outfits, becoming the first entire group to attend the event together.
The iconic Doja Cat always shocks everyone with her crazy outfits and she remains in people's mind, such as the day when she showed up, her body completely covered in red glitters or when she arrived with a realistic cat makeup effect.
The event broke a record with 200 million viewers in 2023 across all platforms !
See you in a few months, where fashion becomes art and the night shines forever...

Should we ban X ?
For the last few months, the issue of staying on X or banning it arises a debate.
Recently, more and more media companies such as The Guardian, Le Monde and users have been leaving the social platform X. They made this decision because they think that X is becoming “the social media of hatred”. By doing this, they want to fight against the disinformation that has been recently happening on X.
What should we do ? Stay on X ? Leave it ? Ban it ?
We must weigh up the pros and cons of this debate.
We should leave X in mass
First of all, we think that it’s crucial to leave the platform. Staying on X appears as a form of support to the owner. Indeed, Elon Musk encourages disinformation, hatred and discrimination, so staying on his platform may be considered as an agreement, adherence to his values. The European Union has decided to lead an investigation on X which is suspected to spread fake news.
It would be better to ban X than simply leave it
We believe that if many people with ethical values committed leaving the platform, it would mean that their fights and values wouldn't be defended. Thus, it would let "haters" impose their ideas and let them encourage the disinformation and hatred without any opponents. Consequently, this platform would become even more criticized and contested.
But we like the concept of this app
In fact, the concept of sending short messages, interacting with others and responding to posts is original. Nevertheless, many other more ethical platforms based on the same principle exist such as BlueSky or Mastodon.
To conclude, there is not only one solution but, according to us, the most important is to be conscious of what happens on X and beware of the information that we can read on it.

Favorite teams to reach the final
Teams start the elimination rounds at zero, and anything can happen in the “win or go home” format. The Kansas Chiefs are looking to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls. The Detroit Lions are one of four NFL clubs never to have played in the big game. These two teams are the favorites. The Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens are also in the running.

This will be his first time headlining the show after performing alongside other famous artists in 2022. The Super Bowl story
The game was created after the NFL and AFL leagues joined forces in the mid 1960s. The two leagues agreed that their champions would compete in a final to determine the U.S champion. The merger was official in 1970, and while each league was renamed, the game remained in the NFL as the matchup that determined the season's champion. The Super Bowl was first called the NFL-AFL World Championship Game in 1967, but the media and fans liked the name "Super Bowl" better. The name didn't become official until the third time the championship game was played. To avoid confusion with the year of the game, the edition numbers are written in Roman numerals.

The rise of French Players in the NBA
Year after year, the NBA continues to welcome new European players, and among them France is well represented.
The NBA (National Basketball Association) was founded in 1946. A lot of players have played in this league , most of them were American. But since the beginning of the 21st Century a lot of European players and especially French players have established themselves in the league.
The French Revolution in NBA
The rise of French players in the NBA has been marked by a significant increase in the number of players playing in the league.
Since 1997, there has been a total of 39 French basketball players in the NBA. The French colony in the NBA has grown over the years. French professional basketball players have exported themselves to the United States with varying degrees of success.Little known to the general public, Tariq Abdul-Wahad was the pioneer of French basketball players in the NBA. He was the first player of French nationality to have played an official match in the NBA. Tariq Abdul-Wahad's career in the NBA was relatively short. The former player from Évreux and the University of San Jose played only five and a half seasons. Maybe you can name players like Tony Parker or Joakim Noah but now a group of young guys are proving themselves in the league. You have certainly already heard of Victor Wembanyama. Victor is a 7,3 ft (2,24m) player from France . He is redefining expectations for French players in the NBA. With his spectacular performances with the San Antonio Spurs, he has proven that he cannot only compete with the best, but has also become a dominant figure in the league. His ability to score, defend and even direct the game despite his exceptional height is opening a new era for European talents.
The best recruit of the 2023 class
At 2m24, the first pick of the 2023 NBA draft quickly made history by becoming the first French player ever to be voted Rookie of the Year in the NBA. But also France is known for producing excellent defenders, and Rudy Gobert is the perfect example. Four-time Defender of the Year (2018, 2019, 2021, 2024), he has established himself as a key defensive pillar in the league. Since 2020, every year a regular season game of NBA is played in France. The 2025 Paris Game reinforced the idea that France is not just a participant in global basketball but a driving force in its evolution. In fact, for the second year in a row the first pick of the NBA draft was a French player . Every year , young players from university are chosen by NBA teams according to a system named " NBA Draft Lottery ". To resume, the worst team in NBA has the best chance to have the first pick of the next year draft. And sometimes it allows some teams to begin a reconstruction with young players.
What's next for French players ?
We can see that France is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most promising talent pipelines for the NBA. While the country has already produced numerous stars in the past, the next wave of young French prospects is looking stronger than ever. Players like Zaccharie Risacher, Alexandre Sarr, and Tidjane Salaün are at the forefront of this new generation, impressing scouts with their athleticism, and skill sets that perfectly align with the modern NBA game.
Beyond these names, France’s youth development system continues to produce high-level players through its renowned training academies, professional leagues, and international competition exposure. The French federation has placed a strong emphasis on fundamentals, physical development, and adaptability—key qualities that make these young talents attractive to NBA teams.
With more and more French players earning spots in draft projections and making an impact at the highest levels of European basketball, it’s only a matter of time before we see another wave of stars making their way to the NBA. France’s basketball future looks incredibly bright, and the world should take notice.

Cycling vs Volley-ball
Four crossed interviews with inspired and inspiring local athletes reveal the hidden sides of two very different sports.
Stéphane Lemaitre, president of the Cycling Club in Joué-lès-Tours, has been a racing cyclist since the age of 10.
How often do you train during the week ?
This year, I only cycled 5000 km with my bike, not that much. In my best years, when I was involved at the national level I would train 4 or 5 times a week, On the most challenging weeks, I was riding almost 500 km.
How did you get psychologically ready for this season ?
Psychologically, without stress, after 40 years ! When I was a junior, there was more mental load, because we always wanted not to disappoint our family, we always wanted to give our best !
Aurélien Ménard is 41 years old and a passionate member of the cycling club in Joué-lès-Tours. He regularly takes part to local competitions.
Do you spend a lot of time training ?
It’s kinda random, it will depend on how much time I have, on my working day schedule, and on the weather. When it’s raining, we are less motivated, But on average, almost 1000 km a month.
Why did you choose to practice cycling ?
I began cycling when I was 12 years old because my father was also a cyclist and I have never stopped since. It's my passion, I love being in the countryside and for me, the best way to discover new roads that we don’t know is to be on a bike. I need to be out to release the stress. I admit that there are a lot of interesting collective indoor sports but it’s not my thing.
Alice Raymond is 24 years old and has been playing Volley-Ball in Saint-Avertin for the past three years. Clara Bonin is 21 years old and she joined the club in 2022. This year, she is playing at the national level.
How did you get physically ready for this season ?
For physical training, we didn’t do a lot. Usually, we begin at the end of August and we don’t touch any balls, we only do exercises like core strength or that sort of things.
Alice, can you tell us what you find the most pleasing in this sport ?
To think about nothing. When you arrive from a working day, whether you've had a good day or a bad day, volley-ball is always there to help you stop overthinking. I play volley-ball to free my mind.
Clara, you are now playing at national level. How did you prepare mentally for this season ?
Psychologically, we are always very determined, especially because we managed to reach the national level. That’s why our team is always motivated, dynamic and above all, enthousiastic and positive.
What are your ambitions for the 2025 season ?
To win, of course ! But Chambray-lès-Tours is really the favourite team. So, we set ourselves a target : only one defeat during the return phase, that would be smashing !
Finally, whether inside a gymnasium or outside in touch with nature, those athletes are the living proof that at all levels and any age, sport is universal and above all, that it is a source of great pleasure for all of those who practice it.
So, which one will you choose ?

Trump’s presidency first 100 decrees
« A new Golden Age for the U.S economy ».
Donald Trump's first 100 decrees are designed to deal with inflation. They aim to improve education and also recognise that there are 2 sexes and prioritise the military...and release the rioters who have been in prison since January 6th.
Rioters relased
On 6th January 2021, after Donald Trump lost the election in 2020 against Joe Biden, riots took place to storm the capitol, where many police officers were beaten up. Once Donald Trump came to power, the rioters were released from prison, creating much discontent and misunderstanding.
Donald Trump has decided that the United States should withdraw from the WHO (World Health Organization) by January 2026.
New measures for the military
He also wants to improve conditions for the military by improving defence and increasing pay. In addition, the decrees targeting the army are designed to prohibit transgender people from joining the army, thus reducing diversity programs. He reintegrated the staff who were fired because they didn't want to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
Lower tuition fees
In his decrees Donald Trump also decided to improve the studying conditions of students by lowering tuition fees in some schools, giving educational power back to parents and eliminating subsidies for schools that teach theories he deems inappropriate, such as critical race theory. In addition, organizations such as FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) have made certain courses free of charge, making it easier for students to access financial aid.
Increased tariffs
He announced plans to impose tariffs of up to 25 % on products from Canada and Mexico, and to charge an additional 10 % on products from China. In other words, he plans to apply global tariffs of between 10 % and 20 %. These measures are intended to protect domestic production and strengthen the US economy, nevertheless it could affect trade relations around the world.
In a nutshell, his 100 executive orders are designed to reverse the policies and laws imposed by Joe Biden in terms of environment, immigration and politics. Trump is thus seeking to establish a more nationalist and conservative policy even if it differs from traditional conservative politics.
To conclude, I think that on some points like improving education and lowering costs, Donald Trump’s decisions could prove positive for the United States, however he retains some authority and control over the people.
Tom Cochonneau
Trump sworn back in office
A new beginning for the 47th President of the United States.
Under the triumphant gaze of his relatives, Donald Trump officially became the 47th president of the United States on Monday, January 20th, in Washington. Donald Trump was sworn in before the President of the Supreme Court John Roberts, while Melania Trump held two bibles (one given to Trump by his mother when he was a child and the other used by Abraham Lincoln to swear in 1861). The January 20th ceremony - the 60th presidential investiture in the United States - was moved at the last minute inside the Capitol Rotunda due to the cold weather. The new vice-president, JD Vance, was sworn in before Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
A historical day
Donald Trump delivered his inaugural speech, a tradition when a president has just been invested. In his speech, longer than his previous in 2017 inauguration, he emphasised that this year, the inauguration coincided with Martin Luther King Day, a public holiday in the United States. He also refered to his historic political return, saying that “in America, the impossible is what we do best,” and he exposed his political projects as well as an optimistic vision of the next four years. (share.amercia..gov)
100 decrees
Donald Trump didn’t waste time. Barely invested on January 20th, the US president signed a series of directives at the Capitol, where the ceremony took place, at the Capital One Arena, where his supporters were gathered, and at the White House, where he will spend the next four years. Donald Trump had promised on the day of his inauguration to launch up to 100 decrees within the first 100 hours, and all topics were dealt with : security, immigration, energy, climate... It is a classic of the American presidency : to undo part of what has been done previously to mark the occasion.
Donald Trump ended the day by attending several inaugural balls late into the evening with the first lady and the previous president, Joe Biden and his wife.

Devastating Fires in Los Angeles
In January 2025 , devastating fires hit Los Angeles, affecting many personalities from the world of film and music. Several celebrities lost their homes or were forced to evacucate . Several stars houses were destroyed , for example Tom Hanks' and Rita Wilson's : the couple lost their 14,513 square foot residence in Pacific Palisades, bought in 2010. Paris Hilton also lost her house to the flames. She expressed her sadness on social media. Los Angeles has been plunged into chaos since the fires started. Several ceremonies have been impacted including the prestigious Oscars ceremony deciding to postpone the announcement of the nominations.
Thimoté Chalamet and Kylie Jenner finally appear together !
The couple formed by Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet, usually particularly discreet, made a remarkable appearance during the Golden Globes ! In addition, photos of them sharing complicit moments have ignited social networks, and fans love this unexpected union ! Moreover, in a film released on January 29th “A complete unknown”, he plays the one and only Bob Dylan. To do this, Timothée Chalamet cut his connections with everything he has always known (social networks, telephone, etc).
Zendaya and Tom Holland engaged ?
A photo of the actress fuels the rumors. Since 2021, the couple seems to be in perfect love. Zendaya and Tom Holland could even move up a gear very soon. The American actress caused a sensation this Sunday at the 2025 Golden Globes Nominations for her performance in the film “Challengers” ; Zendaya made an impression in a superb ocher satin dress. However, another detail caused a stir : the enormous diamond ring that she wore on her left ring finger, the finger on which one generally wears her engagement ring, then her wedding ring !
Trump's inauguration
XXL hat and austere look...His wife Mélania surprises for their return to the White House. During Donald Trump's investiture on January 20th, Melania Trump surprised by opting for a navy ensemble by Adam Lippes, American designer, instead of an expected glamorous outfit. This choice is part of an austere style, reminiscent of an officer, with a huge Eric Javitz hat, à la Audrey Hepburn, which concealed the upper part of her face. This bold look, especially with the headgear, did not go unnoticed. Usually loyal to major European houses like Dior or Saint Laurent, Melania favored an American designer which is quite rare and notable. She was styled by Hervé Pierre who has been her French stylist for the past eight years.
