Foreign students in our school

Hi, I'm Maya! (Crédit photo : Collection personnelle)
It has become a custom to welcome foreign students in our school for the last decade. This year, we had Turkish, Irish, Italians, Australians... But let's focus on the current ones : Grace and Maya.
Can you introduce yourselves ? Grace : Hi, my name is Grace Hall. I'm 16 yo and I live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. The biggest feature of where I live is how beautiful the outdoors are. There is a mountain 30 min. away, for skying in the winter and biking in the summer. There are also many wonderful beaches and lakes very closed by.
Maya : I'm Maya ! I'm 25 yo (yikes !). I live in Rochester, NY, which is about 3h from Toronto and 6 from NYC. It gets rather cold there and we get a lot of snow. It's the Finger Lakes region, so, as for Grace, there is a lot of beautiful lakes and mountains too. I love art, history and music. I collect vinyl records and my favourite bands are from the 1960's ans 1970's. I enjoy camping, reading and procrastinating (lol !).
Why did you choose to come and study in France ? Maya : I studied medieval history, so I wanted to improve my french in order to better understand the primary sources from that time period. I also love traveling and Europe, so I thought living in France would be a great opportunity to study French with native speakers.
How do you feel about France and our high school ? Grace : So far, France has been wonderful. There are so many things to see and so many foods to try ! School in France is very different than in Canada. We go to school from 9.20 to 15.30, so being at school for 9 hours here makes me very tired. Also there is so much note-taking in class here !
Maya : I like France a lot ! I'm so interested in the history and culture. It's cool living somewhere different from the USA ! I like St-Jo as well. It's smaller than most high schools in America, which provides a great opportunity to better get to know the students. Everyone has been so nice and welcoming !
What do you find the weirdest or the most typically French during your stay here ? Grace : French people always greet each other by kissing on the cheek. And there are so many roundabouts ! The most typically French thing I have noticed is that they eat cheese after every meal !
Maya : French fashion is killer ! I also love "l'apéro". It's so fun and tasty !
